I read this one decades ago, though all I could remember going in this time was the title.Having no recollection of the story, I found it fascinating and absorbing.Lifelong fan of Ms. Heyer's writing. This Story is peopled by a collection of her usual assortment of well-realized, well-rounded characters, in a fully developed and presented world, enacting an intricate and enjoyable tale. Even the pets come across as distinct and d. Ho-hum Much as I like Heyer's romance novels, the wonderful invocation of the language and manners of the Regency period have become flat and stilted in the mysteries, like this one, set in the between the war era in England. If I didn't know it, I would not believe that "Why shoot the Butler?" was written by the same hand as the romance novels! Even the fairly well-crafted puzzle was not enough to redeem the book.
