Although it is basically a sword and sorcery piece, there are many pleasures and resonances woven through the action, not least of which is an interesting survey of various bits of the world at the time of the Roman Empire, and some speculative esotericism too. It is very thoroughly developed initially but leaves you wondering what next! The action is between the mythological Khryseoi and the classical Greek God of Death, Eurynomos, as briefly referred to by Hesiod. Fortunately they are immortal so can afford to take their time figuring things out.
