It constitutes a 'must have' text." The International Journal of Aromatherapy . This bigger and better edition has much to offer those working in the field of phyto-medicine including aromatherapists and educators. Here is an essential reference work that also justifies why plants and botany are so vital to human life." Plant Talk, January 2004"book has been extensively revised, certain sections rewritten and additional chapters by specialist contributors included, bringing it up to date in the ever advancing field of pharmacognosy. Each section of the book is well presented with current and comprehensive referencing plus relevant illus
This encyclopedic reference work on pharmacognosy covers the study of those natural substances, principally plants, that find a use in medicine. Its popularity and longevity stem from the book's balance between classical (crude and powdered drugs' characterization and examination) and modern (phytochemistry and pharmacology) aspects of this branch of science, as well as the editor's recognition in recent years of the growing importance of complementary medicines, including herbal, homeopathic and aromatherapy. No other book provides such a wealth of detail.A reservoir of knowledge in a field where there is a resurgence of interest - plants as a source of drugs are of growing interest both
A regrettable buy deyo For a once standard text in most pharmacy schools, this edition is a disappointment. There are few if any references cited, therefore there is no way to get the original papers and so nothing can be properly cited. The review tells you little about what to expect in the book making only vague and (annoyingly) general statements about the book's content. If you really want to buy the book, get the older versions published by McMillian. The Sauder/Elsevier version isn't very good.I would return it, but i de. Great Textbook! The reading is dense, but a very good textbook for those interested in Biochemical processes in plants. I highly recommend it, but you must have a strong biology and chemistry background.. Good buy The book appears good and it is for my son, so I can't say much about it. But it looked and nice book for the subject.
