DESCRIPTION:

From Publishers Weekly Working together since 1955, "Miss Read" (Doris Saint) and artist Goodall have created 31 books about a village in the English Cotswolds. We find the source of the stories in photos here showing the real village of Wood Green and recognizable prototypes of Miss Read's characters. Copyright 1989 Reed Business Information, Inc. The artist's skilled portraits depict the aptly named "Dotty," eccentric spinster; lazy Albert Piggott; the rich but miserly old Misses Lovelock and others more admirable but not impossibly perfect. . All are dear to readers who have met them in Miss Read's sometimes funny, often poignant, always absorbing chronicles. Thrush Green is imaginary, inspired by the author's years in just such a place, among good friends. Additionall

Not a novel - I love Miss Read and all her Fairacre and Thrush Green stories. This book is more of a coffee table book, showing pictures of the village which inspired her to create Thrush Green. It may satisfy a craving if you've read all her other works and are wishing she had written more, but I found the book disappointing as I thought it was going to be a TG novel that I had overlooked. I would not have purchased it had I known what it was, but th. dschecht said The World of Miss Read. This is a wonderful compilation of Miss Read stories and information, full of photographs of the areas she writes about in her charming novels about Thrush Green, Caxley and Fairacre. If you are a Miss Read fan, this book will provide hours of fun.. Well done.
