Solidly rooted in the traditions of both fantasy and mainstream literary fiction, the novel tips its hat to Oz and Narnia as well to Harry, but don’t mistake this for a children's book. The Magician’s Land is that rare novel that looks at what happens after the child prodigy grows up and has to get a job. Great Story, Fun Read Was introduced to the story by the TV series and was not sure how I would like the book, but so far (have just started the second book) I am really enjoying it, and in the book, the main character Quentin, is not half as annoying as he is in the TV series! As is the series, it is by turns, funny, sad, thoughtful, full of action, and often dark. For me it was important that the dark did not overwhelm and take over the story. Without looking at anything else, it is a great adventure story with a fantastical twis. "A Compelling Series" according to Lauren E.. Even though most of these characters are ones you will love to hate, Grossman weaves such a compelling tale that you do not care how horrible some of the protagonists are. Smartly crafted and well written with lots of twists and unexpected turns. I could not put these books down.. Amazon Customer said Magic for Adults. I bought this series after watching the TV show on ScyFy. Well-written, imaginative, beautifully dark, funnyit's definitely a page turning trilogy. I'm glad someone has finally written a magic-themed book for adults.
