"Delightful" according to K. S. Pettry. This book will actuall inspire you to bake. I have never been much of a scratch cake baker but after reading through this book I just wanted to say to someone "here, I baked you a cake" so I did. I wanted to make memories too. Watch a teenage boy's eyes light up when you present him with a sumptious home made chocalate buttermilk cake (with cream cheese icing) for no reason - and on a rainy Sunday when football is on from dawn till dusk! Now that's heaven. This book is unique becaue it is more than . Texas Chic said Great - but not exactly a gift for mom!. I recently purchased two copies of The Cake Club - one for my mother-in-law and one for my collection of cookbooks. When I received the first copy (which was directly sent to my mother-in-law) I scanned through a few pages and found the stories entertaining and recipes tempting. HOWEVER, when I received the second copy (my copy) I read the entire book from front to back and found myself in an awkward state of mind. I just sent a book with a few risque stories to my very conservative mother-in-law -. THIS BOOK SHOULD BE A MOVIE!!!! sara ewing What a fabulously entertaining book! The Cake Club reminds me of the YAYA SISTERHOOD though with less drinking and more food! Susie Quick's family escapades will emind you of the OSBORNE'S, minus the profanity and drugs. "Emma" her mom is everyone's Jewish mother, practically smothering guests with sugary sweets (even diabetics) "a little can't hurt!" Such a great combo--A comic memoir with great dessert recipes and inspiring stories of Susie's friends (I feel like I know her), all of whom you want

With stories like "A Good Man Really is Hard to Find" and "Driving Miss Minnie," photographs, and voices from several generations, this unique and delightful cookbook pays tribute to the healing power of friendship, shared recipes, and a delicious piece of cake.. Susie grew up to be a sophisticated "foodie," but she never forgot the great homemade desserts and ingenious creativity of these talented and delightful home cooks. The Cake Club collects their most prized recipes for southern desserts, along with those of Susie's other colorful friends and relatives - all presented with their original homespun flair combined with t
