Samurai Films broadly defined This was one of those 'faith' purchases I make every now and then. It was 'recommended' by Amazon based on my other purchases, which was appropriate as I write about Asian films and have purchased related books from Amazon in the past. Because the book seemed interesting and was reasonably priced, I decided to take a chance on it. While it has its faults, overall I'm quite happy I bought it and consider it a worthwhile addition to my collection.Roland Thorne is a writer based in Australia and this is his first book. He rather broadly defines samurai films to include other Japanese swordpla. Excellent and Concise Review of the Genre Eric John First, I somewhat agree with the above reviewer that the writing is a bit repetitive at times. However, I blame the editor more than Thorne himself, who has done a wonderful job at reading and watching massive amounts of material and distilling it to a single readable, introductory text.I am currently writing a dissertation on Japanese film and this book is one of the few in my (rather large) collection I would recommend without hesitation.Definitely look forward to getting more from the series
