I found my students enjoyed it in my course on women in world history Mark This book reads very well and covers a really important subject. I found my students enjoyed it in my course on women in world history. There isn't very much on conservative women anywhere, and I thought the subject was very relevant to Chilean history.. a great read and a provocative account This is a fabulous book. I've taught it to both undergraduates and graduate students with huge success. The author walks a fine line between offering a rigorous, serious understanding of her subjects while at the same time preserving her own critical stance (anti-dictatorship) and presenting the often ludicrous perspectives and antics of right-wing women activists. Importantly, this book dispells the myth that military regimes are antithetical to women's participation, rather, she shows how the military sought to harness and channel certain forms of women's activ. I thought she did a commendable job of tying together the origins of the Chilean women's movement with the right-wing women's organizations of the early 1970s. Her use of interviews was excellent throughout the book, especially the words and analysis she offers of the leaders of anti-Allende women organizations. Her conclusions are supported by her research and the story she tells adds an important narrative to the history of women in Latin America.Power's work
