DESCRIPTION:
She struggles with whether she can reveal her belief that her husband might be alive to her friends, her in-laws, and, most importantly, her son.Masterful and psychologically penetrating, Recognition is a taut, engrossing work from an experienced writer ready to break out across wide, cross-generational audiences.. Bennett represents a departure from his earlier work, characterized by rich depictions of African-American families rendered in quiet but powerfully charged prose. After glimpsing the man she believes might be her husband, Dana begins surreptitiously searching for him, and in the process is plunged back into memories of the difficulties she and Reynolds were grappling with at the time of his disappearance. These qualities are present in Recognition, but with the addition of a twisting plot that gives the book a thriller-like intensity.Dana, a single-mother, is driving home one rainy evening when, as she passes a homeless panhandler, she recognizes the features of her long-absent husband. This fourth novel by O.H. Warren Reynolds disappeared from Dana's life a decade earlier — his body mysteriously missing after a terrible auto accident from which a pregnant Dana had to be rescued
Bennett handles the multiple plot lines with grace and skill, and readers will appreciate the subtle growth of the characters, as well as the diverse array of experience." Publishers Weekly"a moving and poignant coming of age novel, very much recommended." Midwest Book Review"Grab this book, and if you’re willing to be patient for a few pages, you’ll be rewarded by a bold story. In the end, Creatures Here Below is a novel you’ll be talking about." Not well-written. Jacqueline Wallen Poorly written. plot has holes you could drive a truck through. Big disappointment, I expected better from the reviews I read.. Carolyn Warren said Literary - Thriller Fusion. Everything about Recognition by O.H. Bennett is out of the ordinary. There is the extraordinary writing, a fusion of literary and thriller. There is the plot that grabs your curiosity and forces you to read on. Minor details (the comic books, birds) turn out to be meaningful symbols. Even t. Great Plot, but not plausible I was so excited when I read the excerpt for the book; however, the book did not deliver. The premise for the story was greatmystery, thriller, but it didn't make sense. I did admire that the author did not reveal the race of the wife until later in the book. I truly made an assumption abou
