Inconsistencies? dexandmag So far I've only gotten into chapter 5 but what I don't understand is that during the section regarding Robert's and Carol's funerals it states that they both had been overcoming their own difficulties, Robert with polio and Carol's father passing the month before. But during the case it states that they call Robert Sr to the stand and he testifies that his son was very strong, which if he had polio he wouldn't be, and the called Carol's father next, but how could he take the stand if he had already passed??. Absolutely Riveting! Informational without being sensational. Amazon Customer What a refreshing true crime novel. The author focuses on the people instead of the violence. You get a feeling of who the victims were along with the perpetrator. I believe that the author bent over backwards to give both sides of the story using actual evidence instead of rumor! Well worth the read whether you are interested in the crime or the laws & changes from the 1950's to the 1970's.. Painfully inspiring This was such a well researched and explained version of a story the media was so biased on. It's heartbreaking to see a life taken away and one of someone who was so kind and gentle. It was a book that helped me see something in myself that I was keeping imprisoned. I appreciate the work the McArthur men did on Caril's behalf and that they made it public.

For this service, he took no pay, accepting the case pro bono. With him when he was captured was his 14-year-old ex-girlfriend Caril Fugate. The question soon arose, was Caril a kidnapped victim, or a heartless accomplice? Appointed to her case, Attorney John McArthur initially accepted the assignment out of a sense of constitutional duty. Pro Bono explores aspects of this incredible story that have never been revealed before, and sheds new light on these terrifying and complex events.. In 1958, 19-year-old Charlie Starkweather went on a murder spree that paralyzed
