DESCRIPTION:
Juvenile attempt at humor Downright painful to read. Instead of finding it witty, I found it tiresome and overdone. The author tries to mix sarcastic humor with made up stories and historical fact; he just can't pull it off. After tiring of the same redundant theme of jokes I threw the book out before finishing. Don't waste your money.. "A cheeky take on the history of Manchester City FC" according to Russell Ward. As a City fan it's been important to have a very good sense of humor over the years. The author has done a very good job of expressing that very typical City humor. A good light reading book that will have you laughing out loud on numerous occasions.. TheCatInTheHat said We're not really here. This was a fantastic book. I've read Manchester: The City Years by Gary James and Richer Than God by David Conn and this ranks up there with them. Mike Devlin has a witty and sarcastic writing style that is a trademark of City fans who have been through it all since the beginning. Sure some of the information here is exaggerated for comedic purposes or just purely made up but knowing City's history, they really aren't that much out of the realm of possibility.I'd recommend this to any City fan who wants to know more about the club's beginnings and can laugh at the absolute absurdity that was synonymous with MCFC
About the Author Mike Devlin, a life-long Manchester City fan, who started writing officially for the club in 2013, and founded the award winning mcfcforum in 2010, decided that the history of his beloved club although well documented, was not exactly to his liking: it was just far too serious. . Of course, this is not to say that all others before him have been wrong, just that they haven't been right. He decided to embark on a journey of putting this correct, and what you have in your hands is the result (after the lawyers had removed and censored about half of it)
