DESCRIPTION:
Bob Geldof formed Band Aid, orchestrated Live Aid, rallied the forces of rock performers all over the world and inspired millions to raise millions for the starving in Africa. In this vividly honest autobiography, Geldof writes of the past; an extraordinary childhood in Dublin and school-days that were both horrifying and funny; the origins of New Wave music; the beginnings, triumphs, worldwide fame, and then eclipse of the Boomtown Rats; and his films The Wall and Number One. But the song and dance about Geldof is not restricted to best-selling money-raising records and concerts: it is meeting the world's leaders and pleading with them to make food and funds available and changing their current aid policies, it is travelling in Africa and seeing famine at first-hand, and it is overseeing the dis
Paul Feehan, Univ. His career was given new meaning when, shocked by a TV story on the famine in Africa, he directed his charismatic energy toward relief for the Ethiopians. From Library Journal Geldof wants us to know that although he may have been the organizational genius behind the humanitarian Live Aid concert, he's no saint. Born in working class Dublin and raised in a punitive Catholic regimen, he early on rebelled, led a vagabond existence, flirting with sex, drugs, and suicide, and finally found his niche as lead singer for the New Wave band the Boomtown Rats. Highly recommended. Manipulating his contacts in the music industry, he put together the greatest single conglomeration of talent in pop history. of Miami Lib., Coral Gables, Fla.Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc. But the essential bits (the inception of the Boomtown Rats, their immersio. Adam Cargill (a_cargill@emerson.edu) said Is That It? is a brilliant chronicle of one man's life.. With his unmistakable charm and Irish wit, Bob Geldof spins a story worthy of any fiction novel. The most fascinating part of the entire book is that it is true. This book is powerfully written, supremely interesting, and completely compelling. Geldof is in a class by himself, and so is his book. The best non-fiction book ever written, it should be used as a primer in schools. A must-read.. This book is a life changer. A Customer I read this book when I was 17 and it blew away my pre-conceived notions of the world in so many ways. I had a well-worn (paperback) copy which featured many underlined passages, which I managed to lose. END
