The author writes well and some bits are very well observed, but a couple of times I found myself thinking "no way did that really happen!" I really hope he invented some of those stories Three and a half stars for the story, rounded up to four since the writing was lovely and flowing. (I have been reading a lot of indies late. Rural british people are KRAZY!!!!!! This book definitely entertained me. I have a business in a rural midwest town in the US and could relate to some extent, but the people around here would be too concerned about others' opinions to behave so badly. The sheer audacity of some of his customers made me think he was next door to a mental hospital!! The book was written in simple to read language, it moved quickly without belaboring details. I sometimes confused his thoughts for words an. "Biting bit of reality" according to Michelle Brockmeier. I expected a hilarious look at the ups and downs of operating your own restaurant. It was not hilarious but a very dark humored look at the foibles of working in customer service. I knew operating a restaurant was hard work but this book really reinforced how exhausting it is. I'd Sooner Starve is a quick easy read, short chapters that read more like reality bites than a cohesive narrative. Enjoyed the book and made me realize how much trouble one c
