Four Stars Thanks!. Pretty good Chinese textbook if you have a teacher or purchase the CD This textbook seems pretty good for kids. Each short chapter covers simple vocabulary and expressions in a specific context (e.g. family, food, classroom, etc.). It gives you both the simplified (v. traditional) Chinese character and the pinyin for the vocabulary & expressions. However, you will still need to either purchase the CDs, or know how to pronounce the words. That's because although the book provides the pinyin (the phonetic spelling), it doesn't te.
