DESCRIPTION:
A homeless cat spends several seasons trying to survive the elements until at last a suburban family adopts him.
James can't remember when he lived with the people who put the now-too-tight collar on him so many years ago. However, the family members believe that the cat must belong to someone and shoo him away. James doesn't forget them, and returns the next summer tired, hungry, and badly injured. From School Library Journal Kindergarten-Grade 3-A simple, heartwarming story. Young audiences will surely have a more sympathetic attitude toward stray cats after reading this compassionate story.Christine Lindsey, Lake Superior Primary School, Ashland, WI Copyright 2000 Reed Business Information, Inc. Many of the pictures are realistic, close-up drawings of the animals, including a ferocious neighborhood dog that attacks the lonely cat. Humans are barely depicted at all, which keeps children's attention focused on the feline's tale. He is too busy trying to survive on his own. A great children's book - and even a great adult's book too. Didn't know it was a kids book - but it's great for any cat lover - I still open it and look at the art work - it's really well done - the artist that did the paintings must love cats too. I also love cats and I work in cat rescue - so many cats out there without homes - and then the ones who are being abused and neglected - this book shows cats are people too - and deserve to be loved and cared for - wish there were more James stories in real life.. Heart warming story! jendel My 5 year old daughter checked this out of the library, and I was so proud of her! Our family has adopted a dog and three cats (that look very similar to the three cats in the story), and we are animal lovers and advocates. I was touched that she chose this story. James is a cat who was abandoned or lost, and he lived in the woods behind someone's house. He struggled to survive for a long time, until the family realized that he had no home, took him in and gave him lots of love. It also hits close to home because my mother in law just took in a black and white cat who was livin. great rescue story As an animal rescue advocate I support all the rescue books out there. I think it is important for children and parents to know the truth about abandoned animals and that there is hope for them IF we offer it. We need to start with children since they are going to be making the decisions of the future. I want the future to not include so many abandoned neglected animals (or children for that matter)!!! Education starts with reading. Thank you for writing these books and I hope many more will be added to Amazon for the education of your readers.
