"Great Read" according to James A Friddle. This is another one of Smiths EASY READs and it reads like a novel.I would also recommend the author's two previous works of non-fiction, "Rendezvous in Dallas" and "The Fighing Little Judge: The Life and Times of George C. Wallace."UltimatelySmith brings true stories to light and does a great job of presenting them to the reader where we find them much stranger than fiction.. "Good story, bad typos" according to Dr. Cupcake. This book gives a good, concise overview of the science and politics that went into the making of the first atomic bombs. Nice review of the major players as well. The only downside is the endless typos and bad grammar--it became distracting. Still, a good read overall.. Fire in the Sky Why when I was in History class was the information so flat? Jeff Smith has again sought found and shared wonderfully interesting information and History comes alive. Interesting thank you for shifting through the facts and the creative product. Good read.

Fire in the Sky: The Story of the Atomic Bomb chronicles the development and use of the first atom. American military personnel, along with their spouses, children, parents, and friends, were eager to see the bloody conflict come to and end, by any means possible. Jubilation among the Allied countries was tempered by a profound sense of relief; nearly four years of bloody war had finally come to an end. Some 406, 000 Americans died during World War II, while another 671, 000 were wounded. Consequently, President Harry Truman's decision to utilize the atomic bomb to bring Japan to its knees was wildly popular in the weeks and months that followed the Japanese surrender. Three days later, a second nuclear weapon was released over the skies of Nagasaki, killing over 40, 000 Japanese citizens, most of whom were civilians. I
