Book by McConkie, Bruce R.

"Five Stars" according to Jim. I enjoy these books. Aaron Bailey said Occupies an essential and unique place on any LDS theological bookshelf. Bruce R. McConkie's three-volume commentary on the New Testament holds a unique place in LDS theological writing. Like his great book Mormon Doctrine, McConkie is in-depth, authoritative in tone, and willing to speculate. When reading McConkie's publications, it is vital to understand that privately published books by general authorities do not represent church doctrine. Marion G. Romney, a member of the twelve, once wrote a report of "Mormon Doctrine" for President David O. McKay which mainly "dealt with Elder McConkie's usage of forceful, blunt language; some strongly worded statements about ambiguous doctrine and matters of opinion. Lee Bettilyon said I am VERY disappointed with the commentary. I am VERY disappointed with the commentary. Many of the discussion headings do not list the scripture that is being discussed and some list a scripture but do not list other references that are included in the discussion. The book also has the scripture text, which is missing from this electronic version. It seems to me that it would very easy and not very time consuming to add the scripture references at the beginning of each heading. And why this has not been done is confusing to me. Bro. McConkie, who I knew, was a very meticulous man and would be embarrassed to be associated with such sloppy work.
