DESCRIPTION:
His bestselling book The Corporation was made into an award-winning documentary. He lives in Vancouver. JOEL BAKAN is an internationally recognized and award-winning scholar and teacher who has worked on landmark legal cases and government policies.
A journey through a world of unabashed exploitation, clued-out parents, and governments that look the other way, it tells the chilling and at times darkly humorous story of business’s plans to turn kids into obsessive and narcissistic mini-consumers, media addicts, cheap and pliable workers, and chemical industry guinea pigs. His message in a nutshell:We must protect our children from the bared fangs of corporate greed.. The Corporation is a Sociopath As a small business owner, I am attuned to the impositions of governmental intrusions. I decided to read this book in order to get a more balanced view. Although this author definitely has a bias, he does not come across as overtly fanatical, and has plenty of examples to document his position. The corporation is compared to a sociopath. The sociopathic personality is "irresponsible, manipulating, grandiose, lacking in empathy, has asocial tendencies, refuses to accept responsibility for actions, and cannot feel remorse. Many of the attitudes people adopt and th. A good piece of work The author is to be thanked for his scholarship and clarity in defining the history and the limitations of the modern corporate enterprise. As a businessperson, the limitations of corporate structure to deal with global markets, civil society, and pressing environmental problems, are apparent everyday. Daily business means choosing between environmental, social, and economic outcomes because of the corporation's responsibility to its shareholders, at the expense of all its common stakeholders. In his book, Mr. Bakan outlines the history of the corporation, defin
