For me, this book was very helpful. It had good pictures, told about tools, painting and sealing the pole, showed close ups and had patterns. I would highly recommend it. It is by far the best of the books that I bought about carving your own totem.. Great information Nanaduck Living in the great Pacific Northwest, this book provided us with much information about totem poles even if you aren't a carver. I am a chainsaw carver so will be using that tool more than chisels. The tip about the stress cut to prevent cracking made the book worth buying.
